Use this path to structure your first deal workspace in Deal Haven. It follows the same six stages as guided setup in the app: create a deal, optional tasks, accounts readiness, optional accounts date and import, optional documents, and final notes.
You are not completing an acquisition here—you are creating a workspace you can return to for analysis, tasks, and documents.
Time: about five minutes if you skip optional steps.
In-app route: After sign-in, open guided setup from your dashboard (Continue or Start guided setup on the banner), or go directly in the workspace you are already using: Personal workspace: /personal/onboarding · Organisation workspace: /org/<your-org-slug>/onboarding.
Step 1 — Create your first deal
Prerequisite: Signed in with permission to create deals.
In the app: Guided setup → Create your first deal.
What to do:
- Enter a deal name (required).
- Optionally add company, industry, asking price, priority, location, and description.
- Choose Continue (or Save & continue if you are editing an existing draft deal).
Expected result: A deal exists in your workspace and becomes the anchor for the rest of guided setup. You can add more deals later from the dashboard.
If something goes wrong: Return to the dashboard and open guided setup again. If creation fails repeatedly, refresh and check your workspace billing or permissions.
Step 2 — Add tasks (optional)
Prerequisite: Step 1 complete.
In the app: Add a few tasks (optional).
What to do:
- Tap suggested tasks (for example review teaser/CIM, schedule a management call), add a custom task, or choose Skip.
Expected result: Optional tasks appear on the deal, or you move on with none. Tasks can be added later from the deal or Tasks in the sidebar.
Skip path: Skip or Continue without adding tasks → you advance to the accounts question.
For everyday task work: See Manage deal tasks for due dates, assignees, statuses, dependencies, and filters.
Step 3 — Historical accounts ready?
Prerequisite: Step 2 complete (or skipped).
In the app: Do you have historical accounts ready?
What to do:
- Yes, I'm ready → continue to latest accounts date and import (Steps 4a–4b).
- Not yet → guided setup skips the import substeps and takes you to Documents.
Expected result:
| Choice | What happens next |
|---|---|
| Yes | You set a latest accounts date and may import into the base financial model. |
| Not yet | No import is required; you can import later from Financial analysis on the deal. |
Step 4a — Latest accounts date (if you chose “Yes”)
Prerequisite: Step 3 → Yes, I'm ready.
In the app: Latest accounts date & import.
What to do:
- Enter the latest accounts date (calendar date of your newest file, not a year label alone).
- Choose Save date.
Expected result: The valuation model stores the date so import years align correctly.
Step 4b — Import accounts (optional within this branch)
Prerequisite: Date saved in Step 4a.
In the app: Same card — use Import accounts when ready.
What to do:
- Run the import dialog and confirm mapping, or
- Choose Skip import for now.
Expected result:
| Path | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Import applied | Continue to documents unlocks once a base-scenario import is applied (or recorded as applied). |
| Skip import | You move forward without applied accounts data; import remains available from the deal’s financial analysis. |
You may open Financial analysis in a new tab during this step; that is optional.
Step 5 — Documents (optional)
Prerequisite: Accounts branch finished or skipped.
In the app: Documents.
What to do:
- Upload one or more files with Documents, or
- Choose Skip.
Expected result:
| Path | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Upload ≥1 file | Continue saves progress to final notes. |
| Skip | You go to final notes with no documents; upload later from the deal Documents tab. |
Step 6 — Final notes
Prerequisite: A deal linked to this guided setup run.
In the app: Final notes.
What to do:
- Edit the deal description (rich text), including anything you added at creation.
- Choose Save & finish.
Expected result: Guided setup is marked complete for this workspace. You return to the dashboard with your deal ready for everyday work—tasks, financials, documents, and collaboration.
Resume later: If you exit mid-flow, use Continue on the dashboard banner to pick up at your last saved step.
After guided setup
- Dashboard: Your deal card opens the full deal workspace.
- Run again: Run guided setup again from the completion screen or dashboard opt-in banner replays the tour (useful for training teammates).
- Deeper reference: See Guided setup steps for a compact step map and skip/resume notes.
Quick checklist
- Create deal → workspace anchor exists
- Tasks → optional
- Accounts ready? → Yes (date + optional import) or Not yet (skip to documents)
- Documents → optional upload or skip
- Final notes → save description and finish
When you are signed in, use Continue or Start guided setup on your dashboard banner in the workspace you are already using, or go directly via Personal workspace: /personal/onboarding or Organisation workspace: /org/<your-org-slug>/onboarding. Guided setup progress is saved per workspace—stay in the same workspace if you are resuming a draft.
